Why do you think Jesus decided to forgive the paralytic of his sins first? What message is Jesus trying to send?
Verse 9-13: If you were a church leader, and you got to determine who was on staff, how would you pick the right people? What would you look for? What would you avoid?
Why do you think Jesus would say “for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners”? What could possibly be the advantage of picking a tax collector as part of his team? How do you think Jesus would pick church leaders?
Verse 14-17: Have you ever fasted? What did you think of the experience? Why do people fast?
What do the parables in verse 16 and 17 alluding to?
Do you think Christianity is Judaism 2.0 or is it something completely different? Are Judaism and Christianity compatible?
Verse 18-31: People’s faith in Jesus brought physical healing. Do you think people are still healed by their faith in Jesus? What does it mean when we aren’t healed when we ask and believe?
What is it we can have confidence about when we make requests of God? What is it we can be uncertain about? What is it we have faith in when praying to God?
Verse 35-37: Do you think there are plentiful opportunities to lead others to Christ around you now? What are some key needs people have in your community? If you could solve one problem in your community, what would it be?
Jesus could have asked the disciples to pray that God would heal and help those around them, but he asked them to pray for laborers. If Jesus has the capability of solving so many issues through faith in God, why does he make a request for laborers?
