Action Strategies

  • Just do it
  • Conduct directed prayer
  • Outreach personally
  • Mentor spiritually
  • Create ABFs with a purpose
  • Establish satellite ministries

This list is the result of a brainstorming exercise. We asked the question, What can we do, as individuals or as a group, to achieve the vision of “a growing body of growing disciples.”

The categories are in the order from the easiest and most urgent to the most difficult.

We can implement most of these ourselves, without relying on the support of others outside our group.

Just-do-it and Initial Focus Items:

  • Pray daily for the NCBC leadership [All-ongoing]
  • Invite people into your circle (including Saturday mornings)[All-ongoing]
  • Conduct combo ABFs to provide cross-fertilization of ideas. [Bob and Shaun-in process]
  • Start an Embrace Grace baby shower ministry (for both mothers and fathers) [Mike P. through Bridgehaven-Enqueued]
  • Establish mentorships through The Porch [Shaun]
  • Create or show Younger Me and I Am Second videos. [TBA]

  • Pray for one another – create list [Bob-Done]
  • Create this list [Mike P.-Done]
  • Create a focused prayer list [Mike P-Done]
  • Get a list of ABF leaders [Bob-Done]
  • Hold a book club meeting [Bob and Shaun Done]
  • Bring Life Disciples training to NCBC
    (Pregnancy first responders-Intro session ) [Mike P-Done]

Conduct Directed Prayer

Pray out loud; it makes it more real.
Be faithful, even when you think no one is looking.

  • Ask others if you can pray for them
  • Start a [real] prayer group [ABF or Study Group} focused on the Kingdom. [Dave Z.]
  • Create an Ask Me button

Outreach personally

  • Take a visitor to lunch every Sunday.
    (Family-to-Family)
  • Take an unbeliever to lunch every week.
    (works best in pairs)
  • Bring someone to the Saturday group next week.
  • Have a lay preacher every fifth Sunday.
  • Be a positive influence…make only positive comments.
  • Live out our faith at work.
  • Set up and use Twitter (and other social media) accounts
  • Establish a Gear Head ministry that repairs cars
    (also mentors youth.)
  • Mow lawns and scoop snow for elderly persons (and staff.)
  • Create a chalkboard for comments.
  • Establish a morning coffee outreach.
  • Start a movie night
  • ID 3
  • Sermons that convey love and acceptance
  • Conduct a flash mob
  • Reach out to others (even when you don’t want to)

Mentor Spiritually

  • Mentor [disciple] a new believer
  • “Adopt” an international student or any college student
  • “Adopt” a middle school or high school
  • Mentor for anything.
  • Start a “Divorced and Widows” group
  • Start an intergenerational mentorship.

Create ABFs with a Purpose

  • Create ad hoc ABFs to accomplish specific goals, then disband.
  • Hold retreats for adults
