Questions for Saturday Morning:

  1. What are the defining characteristics of being American?
  2. What are the defining characteristics of being Christian?
  3. Galatians 3:1-5: Paul calls the Galatians out as being foolish twice in this first paragraph. What is Paul calling the Galatians church out on?
  4. Galatians 3:6: Why would believing God be counted as righteousness (Genesis 15:6)?
  5. Galatians 3:7-9: What exactly did Abraham have faith in? I thought Abraham just had faith that he would have a big family lineage? How is this equivalent to the faith we have?
  6. Galatians 3:10-14: Throughout this chapter, Paul makes several references to the Spirit. Why is the Spirit a factor in our faith now? Where was the Spirit all this time?
  7. Galatians 3:15-18: What kind of promise did God make to Abraham? Check out Genesis 17. There are actually two promises – one for Abraham’s descendants and one for Abraham and his immediate heirs.
  8. Galatians 3:19-20: What can the law do for us? Does it have any benefit?
  9. Galatians 3:21-22: Why can’t you be righteous by following all the rules? How do you define righteousness?
  10. Galatians 3:23: Why does Paul say the Jews were held captive by a law? Did God want the Jews to be captives? I thought God wanted us to be free.
  11. Galatians 3:24-26: It says “now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian”. What does it mean to be under a guardian versus a parent? Whom do we belong to?
  12. Galatians 3:27-29: What does it mean to be equal under Christ?
  13. What does it really mean to have freedom in Christ? What are we free from with respect to how we used to live? Do you think we have freedom from the old covenant?
  14. Do you think churches are still attracted to being in bondage to something? What kind of church would we need to have that reflects the new relationship we have in Christ?
