Verse 3-5: Why do you think people pick bullies to be leaders? Is there something attractive about people who stir up controversy, dissension, slander, and cause friction?
Is there something attractive about spiritual leaders who go against the grain? Are Christians apt to follow leaders who purport to have “special” knowledge and insight?
Is it more vindicating to be right about people than right with people? What should Christians want?
Verse 6-8: Are you content with life? What are the areas you struggle with contentment?
At what point did you become content with your position at work? Why did that happen?
Verse 9-10: What are the temptations and snares that the desire to be rich lead to?
How do we know when we have become or are becoming greedy? What can we do about it?
Verse 11: What does it look like to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, and gentleness? What do we give up and what do we add to our lives to pursue these things?
Verse 12: In the wake of COVID-19, how do we continue to fight the good fight of faith? How do we stay strong spiritually as well as faithfully serve God when we have to maintain social distancing?
Verse 13-16: Have you ever been part of a commissioning ceremony? Do you think they are important?
Do you feel like you’ve been commissioned for God’s work? Do you think we need a commissioning ceremony? What are some ideas for spurring one another on?
Verse 17-19: Do you think people today are getting a better appreciation for the uncertainty of riches? How can we turn this into an opportunity to reach out to people in our community?
