1 Timothy 2

Verse 1: If God is sovereign and has already determined what’s going to happen, why should we pray?

In Luke 22:42, it says “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” If Jesus knew what was going to happen, why would he pray for it not to happen?

Have your children ever asked for anything they knew they wouldn’t get? Why do you think they ask?

“The function of prayer is not to influence God, but rather to change the nature of the one who prays.” – Soren Kierkegaard. Do you agree or disagree?

Verse 2 In what ways do we need to be praying about leaders in our life? Do you have leaders you pray for?

Verse 3-4: If God desires all people to be saved, why doesn’t He do it? Can’t He do what He desires?

“What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory—even us whom he has called, not from the Jews only but also from the Gentiles?”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭9:22-24‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Verse 5-7: Do you have an example of a gift you’ve given or received that couldn’t be paid back? What was it and why did it happen?

Verse 8: What are things that church people love to argue about? Why? How should we respond to these events? What are some negative ways we can respond in disagreements?

Verse 9-10: What were some rules for how you should dress in church when you were younger? What has changed? How should a Christian approach their outward appearance?

Verse 11: Do you view submission as a good thing or a bad thing? Why do you think people often have a distaste for submission? Are you a person worth submitting to?

Verse 12: Do you think there should be women pastors? Why or why not?

Verse 13-15: What does it mean “she will be saved through childbearing”? Are these verses ones that you would bring up in a women’s Bible study? How are we to apply these verses?
