Verse 1-3: The Bonaventure Cemetery is a famous cemetery with beautiful headstones, statues, and mausoleums. It has become a tourist attraction and was even featured in a movie. Have you ever planned out what you would like your headstone to be? Where would you be buried? What is the image of you that you want people to remember?

What can we hope to be like when Jesus comes back?
What will we be leaving behind?
How does this change our life now?

Verse 4-10: What is a skill you have spent time developing?
Do you have my skills you are working on developing now?

What does it mean to make a practice of sinning?
How do we know if we are making a practice of sinning?
What does it mean to practice righteousness?
Does it take work to practice righteousness?
Is it evident when we don’t practice righteousness?

Verse 11-15: Is there an organization, people, party, or practice you wish were just gone from the face of the earth? Why is that?

What is it about Christians that the world hates? Is there anything about Christians that the world should love? Is hate by the world the measure of if we’re in right standing with God?

What is the Christian’s place in the world? How does a Christian demonstrate love to the world?

Verse 16-18: How did you know (or not know) that you were loved in your family?

What are some examples of how we might try to show love in words or talk without showing love in deed and in truth?

Verse 19-24: Do you think God rewards us for our good behavior?
What does it mean that “whatever we ask we receive from him because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him”?
