Famous quotes about planning:
“The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining.” – J.F.K
“A goal without a plan is just a wish” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery
“Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” – Warren Buffett
Are you planning and preparing to be a blessing to others or are you waiting for it to happen organically? Is it important to plan and prepare?
Read 1 Peter 3:14-16. How should we prepare to be ambassadors for Christ? What are the results of preparing?
“But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.”
1 Peter 3:14-16 ESV
Verse 5-9: Refer to Acts 16:19. Why do you think Paul kept going back to preach the gospel in so many places where he was beaten or jailed?
How do you discern if what you’re doing is the will of God?
Do you ever feel like you’re up against adversaries? How should we handle this?
Verse 10-12: How would you feel if your boss told you to take an assignment where you might lose your life? How do you think Timothy felt about going to Corinth? How would you feel about spending a lot of time in this church?
Verse 13-14: Do you have a favorite coach or movie speech? What are some encouraging words you’ve received from your family that meant a lot to you? What are some encouraging words you need right now?
Verse 15-18: What does it mean to be a servant leader to you? What kind of leaders do you look up to? Why?
Servant leadership is a leadership philosophy in which the main goal of the leader is to serve. This is different from traditional leadership where the leader’s main focus is the thriving of their company or organizations. A Servant Leader shares power, puts the needs of the employees first, and helps people develop and perform as highly as possible. Servant leadership inverts the norm, which puts the customer service associates as the main priority. Instead of the people working to serve the leader, the leader exists to serve the people. As stated by its founder, Robert K. Greenleaf, a Servant Leader should be focused on, “Do those served grow as persons? Do they, while being served, become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants?” When leaders shift their mindset and serve first, they benefit as well as their employees in that their employees acquire personal growth, while the organization grows as well due to the employees growing commitment and engagement.
Verse 19-24: If you had to send one letter to your child/children and couldn’t communicate with them for a long time, what would you write to them? If you had to send your final letter to your kids, how would that change your message?
